NEXT TO NORMAL
Sam Torres recently appeared in Hart Theatre Company's Next to Normal as Natalie. The production ran through March of 2025
Rounding out this dysfunctional family is the youngest child, Natalie, played by the immensely talented Sam Torres. Torres was in Hart Theater Company’s recent production of “Hope for the Flowers” so I went into Next to Normal with big expectations, and she did not disappoint... Torres shares this struggle with us as Natalie falls into drugs and rebellion and fights to find her place and identity. It is interesting that at the beginning she appears to be an accomplished young lady, yet as she descends you see that all along it was a mask for anxiety and problems within.

HOPE for the Flowers
Sam originated the role of Yellow in Hope For The Flowers; a world premiere musical based on the book by Trina Paulus. Music, Lyrics, and Script by Cathy Neff. A tale -- partly about life, partly about revolution, and lots about hope for adults and others (including caterpillars who can read).
Spring Awakening
Hart Theatre Company, Salt Lake City
Sam appeared as "Ilse" in Spring Awakening. A show rarely seen or done in Utah, Hart Theater’s Triumphant “Spring Awakening” Brings Us a Woeful, Beautiful, and Important Message about life, love, and the cycle of abuse.
Daisy Blake (Gephardt Daily, Salt Lake City), wrote:
Torres plays Ilse beautifully; she’s a child-woman who seems to yearn for earlier simpler times, as much as she also wants to be bohemian and sophisticated. Her monologue about spending the night passed out in the snow because she and the other artists got so drunk was one of the highlights of the show for me; Ilse seems simultaneously thrilled and appalled by her life.

A Shayna Maidel
“A Shayna Maidel” (Yiddish for “A Pretty Girl”) is a powerful, poignant drama about two sisters trying to reconnect after years of separation during World War II. The play by Barbara Lebow opened at the Alliance Theater in Trolley Square May 19, 2023
Daisy Blake (Gephardt Daily, Salt Lake City), wrote:
"The performances, across the board, were absolutely lovely. Merry Magee, who plays Lusia, and Sam Torres, who plays Rose, are both names to watch in the Salt Lake theater scene. Both seem less to act and more to just be. And Torres is just a wonder. I’ve seen her in three pieces recently; Wasatch Theatre Company’s “Melancholy Play,” a reading of Morag Shepherd’s “The Big Quiet” for Pygmalion Theatre Company and now this show, and with apparently no effort at all, she transformed utterly for each. Of course, that is what actors do, but to see such complete metamorphosis into vastly different characters is quite a feat.”

Melancholy Play
THE MELANCHOLY PLAY is a farce by Sarah Ruhl that follows the sometimes melodramatic bank teller Tilly and her emotion-driven adventures with other characters. Starring Ariana Farber, directed by Morag Shepherd. One-week engagement only! Part of WTC’s 25th season. Runs March 23-26
